Recap
A total of 12 qualifying teams took part in the inaugural Finals of The Big Goal national 5-a-side football tournament. Split into two equal groups of 6 teams, Focus Group as the only organisation with two representative teams were fortunate to have missed each other in the live draw. Unfortunately – this wasn’t enough to see either of their two teams progress through to the group stages. In Group A, both Gamma and Elite Group qualified to make it to the Knock-Out stages – Elite Group going through on goal difference after a nail-biting end, just pipping PXC to the Semi Finals. In Group B, Wavenet proved incredibly strong, going through unbeaten, with Virgin Media Business also qualifying ahead of BDR Group.

Recap
The Semi-Finals saw Group A winners, Gamma, up against Group B runners up, Virgin Media, but it was a strong and committed Virgin Media team that saw Gamma off, with a convincing 4-0 victory, to claim their place in the National Final. In the other Semi-Final, Group B winners, Wavenet, who were so strong during their group stages, were perhaps surprisingly beaten by Group A runners up, Elite Group, 2-0. Elite Group who had a Regional Finals crown already bagged, rising to the challenge to make the National Final.

VIRGIN MEDIA BUSINESS
National Champions
With Virgin Media Business having entered the National Final with such a convincing 4-0 win, and Elite Group having beaten one of the favourites in Wavenet, 2-0; the National Final stage was set and no-one could call it. Both teams looked strong going into the Final, and it was fair to say both teams really wanted it! The National Final didn't disappoint, with some truly excellent football played. Both teams also played in great spirit, respectful of the officials throughout. Come the moment however, it was Virgin Media who struck first, and then as the game progressed, Elite Group seemed to tire, and Virgin Media went on to claim a richly deserved win, coming out on top 3-1 to claim the national trophy. Our huge congratulations to all teams taking part - and a special congratulations to the first official National Champions of The Big Goal - VIRGIN MEDIA BUSINESS!
