The Big Goal is expanding fast beyond the realms of the ICT industry which, according to founder and CEO Keith Mabbutt, is a highly positive step forward in terms of the initiative’s overall aim to end youth homelessness in the UK.
“We have built a solid foundation in the technology space, for which we will be eternally grateful, but news about The Big Goal is growing via member companies who are spreading the word to their customers,” said CEO Keith Mabbutt.
The Big Goal co-founder Tez O’Brien, CEO of headline supporter Giacom, put out a call to member companies to enlist their customers to participate in the programme and it’s already working, as Mabbutt explained.
CUSTOMER APPROACH
“As a prime example Welcomm Communications approached one of their top customers, the Market Harborough Building Society. Welcomm explained the social impact and ESG benefits The Big Goal provides and I’m delighted to announce the Society has agreed to join our community of supporting businesses. They will now participate in the Midlands regional tournament to be staged at the Racecourse Playing Fields in Derby on April 30th.”

Welcomm CEO Aidan Piper was instrumental in getting the Society on board.
“They had to get approval from their trustees to join us in our support of The Big Goal and having seen the benefits it brings to the local community, I’m pleased to say they have signed up,” he said. Aidan is now confident more of Welcomm’s raft of clients will follow suit over time.
SPREADING THE WORD
“In terms of supporting the programme more broadly, spreading the word has been a big focus for us. We’ve been speaking to customers about The Big Goal and continuing to share updates on social channels to help raise awareness and encourage others to get involved. It’s something the team are genuinely proud to support.”
Meanwhile, Aidan reports highly positive feedback from his staff who have attended the Welcomm sponsored Street Soccer Academy at Leicester City in The Community, the charitable arm of Leicester City FC.
“The Academy experience has been a real highlight,” continued Aidan.
“Our team really connected with the young graduates who shared their own stories of how they got to where they are today, including some of the challenges they’ve faced along the way.
OPENING UP
“One colleague of ours opened up about his own childhood and how he found direction in his life, and it had a real impact. You could see the students engage differently when they realised they weren’t alone in facing barriers. It also helped our own team open up more with each other, which was lovely to see.
“We’ve shared these experiences both internally and externally – through team meetings, our internal newsletter, social posts, and general conversations with clients.
“From an HR perspective, supporting The Big Goal fits perfectly with our values and the kind of organisation we want to be, so it’s been great watching the team get so involved,” added Aidan.
