They’re on the march again! Elite Group, last year’s national winners of The Big Goal, are back in the groove and gunning for their second title in a row after winning the Northern Regional Tournament staged at The Simpson Hub, in Liverpool.
The Chorley-based Managed Solutions Provider team beat ANS Group 2-0 in the final and were unbeaten throughout the tournament, hitting the back of the net 18 times and not conceding a single goal. That’s impressive and puts them in pole position to secure a win at the National Finals at St George’s Park on June 11th and once again go on to represent England at the FIFCO Corporate World Cup in Turkey in the Autumn. Elite Group came fourth in the world in the FIFCO tournament in Morocco last year and are clearly aiming to better that performance this year.
Commitment and Teamwork
“We’re absolutely delighted to have won the Northern Regional Finals for the third consecutive year,” said Elite Group CEO Adam Turton.
“To score 18 goals and concede none across the tournament is a reflection of the commitment, teamwork and quality of the performances shown by everyone in the team.
Adam was full of praise for the tournament and the cause it represents.
“What makes this competition special is the purpose behind it. The Big Goal is doing incredible work to raise awareness and support the mission to end youth homelessness in the UK, and we’re proud to play our part. It was also fantastic to see so many organisations and teams coming together in support of the initiative and contributing to such a positive and competitive day.
Outstanding Atmosphere
“A huge thank you must go to the Street Soccer Foundation team for hosting another fantastic event in Liverpool. The standard of organisation and the atmosphere throughout the day were outstanding,” he added.
Semi-finalists Wavenet FC, Radius, BT Wholesale and Apprentify – another newcomer to The Big Goal who beat ManchesterAIR UnITed 2-0 in the Plate Final – join Elite Group as National Finals qualifiers.
Individual winners at Liverpool were: Lucas Brennand of Elite Group, scooping up both the Player of the Tournament and the Golden Glove Award, after not conceding a single goal in the tournament. The Golden Boot Award went to Sam Finch (also of Elite Group) with a haul of 9 goals.
